You Want Them to Notice is a two-person exhibition of new works by myself and Bradley Marshall, the two newest members of the COOP Artist Collective in Nashville. I’ll be presenting sound and software works that trace the presence of the unseen through feedback systems and sonic phenomena. As part of a larger body of work that links the physical to time, queer bodies become a proxy through which a resistance to erasure can be explored through a critique of the visual. For this show, I’ll present a set of cassette tape recordings of interacted feedback that fluctuate based on one’s physical relationship to a custom-devised system.
Bradley Marshall’s images are part of an ongoing study of American masculinity and coming-of-age rituals. Looking to popular culture and counterculture, Marshall presents a series of laser-engraved photos of punk shows and "the crowd" as a means of observing tensions between alienation, intimacy, and violence within certain masculinity rituals.
